about

COVID-19 is affecting the arts industry in a major way. We have to postpone or cancel many performances, leaving us without a source of income. During this time GOM will do everything we can to continue employing artists, make new material and preparing for the new challenges that face us.

This is a difficult and stressful time for everyone, but if you're in a position where you feel like you can help out, we're accepting donations . Donations will help us to keep food on the table for our artists and will help us make the most of a challenging situation so that we can bounce back after the pandemic is over.

Gravity & Other Myths (GOM) is an acrobatics and physical theatre company pushing the boundaries of new circus. Formed in Adelaide, Australia in 2009, GOM has rocketed to stellar acclaim with a series of disarmingly accomplished ensemble works. GOM utilises an honest approach to performance, to create work with a focus on human connection and acrobatic virtuosity.

Our first work, A Simple Space, has achieved momentous international success, having performed more than 850 times across 34 countries and receiving multiple awards, most notably the IPAY Victor Award for People's Choice. Backbone, GOM’s subsequent work, premiered as part of the 2017 Adelaide Festival to critical acclaim and 3 Helpmann Award nominations, cementing the company’s position as a leader in contemporary circus. GOM’s latest work, Out Of Chaos…, premiered at the 2019 Adelaide Festival and went on to receive the 2019 Helpmann Award for Best Physical Theatre.

Alongside our onstage work, GOM deeply values engaging with both our immediate and wider community through workshops and education. Head to our community and education pages to find out more.

A Brief History

Episode 1 of Carnival Cinema’s documentary on the making of Backbone. Watch the rest of the series here.

Previous Work

Freefall

Freefall was Gravity & Other Myths’ first acrobatic feat. Created in 2009, it explores the fears of each performer through honesty and humour. Punctuated by dynamic acrobatics and contemporary circus theatre, Freefall asks the question… is it our fears that define us?

Freefall was critically acclaimed, won multiple awards, and toured regional and metropolitan Australia over the course of 2 years.

Exhale

An explosion of dynamic group acrobatics and incredible displays of physical strength, Exhale is a 15 minute piece that will have audiences holding their breath. As acrobats tumble across the stage and are tossed into the air, the energy builds to the final breath-taking feat.

Gravity & Other Myths have performed Exhale at festivals, award ceremonies, corporate functions, fundraisers and parades.
